River - Simplicity is Key!

It's all for OUR dogs...

Our goal: To find a producer or celeb or anyone who will help make Piper's Someday  (the book River stars in) into a movie. If you can help, contact me!

Day 71 of 365

Here's how the story begins:   (start here if you are new)

River's wags of wisdom for today: "All my furry life, it's just the simple things."

River loves yogurt.

Whenever Heather or I get a cup out and delve into one, River is usually lying on the carpet next to the sofa. As you near the end of the cup, which takes me usually two minutes or less, River can sense you're almost done by perking her head up and pointing it pointedly in your direction. Her ears go all Sally Field and she's ready for your imminent spoon clacking to get louder as you reach the bottom. This begins her journey your way to grab gingerly the empty cup from your hands and then to lie down and do the two-paw hold to lick in ecstasy.

Don't you wish humans were this easy. Maybe if we got a bit more humble like Oliver Twist - "Please, sir...more!" while holding out his empty bowl of gruel. But, of course, Oliver gets more than what he truly asks for and therefore unleashes a journey of a lifetime. In Dickensian times, we did not have Stonyfield Vanilla yogurt, just a bit of bread and some porridge and a piece of dried meat if you could get some.

River always gets more these days if she asks. Willingly, we take her to Einstein's Bagelry for a dog biscuit or take her for a sniff-filled walk or we just a scratch her on her belly as she's lying on one of her queen bee mattresses.

River doesn't need much nor does she ask for much. Dogs are imminently like this. By and large they just want to please us and help us and walk with us on our journeys. They are here, I'm sure, to aid humans in the exorbitant tolls of life, day by day.

I thought before I had River that I knew all that there was to know about what a dog did. But, watching her entire body get excited over a few licks of joy at the bottom of a yogurt container. Wow!

Tomorrow, when I hold a paper clip, I will think of the art I can manifest, the silver wiggles and sculpts I can bend into a limitless vein of silver that arcs wildly in the light.

We love you,

Ruth and River
